Windswept Prairie 9398020252_1c39976a7a_b

Named for the sea winds that sweep across the prairie. The grass is thick and flows across the earth along with clumps of heather dotting it here and there. There are few trees there.

The strength of the wind at times was staggering, but Lilysong was drinking in every second of it. She often kept herself well groomed, but to have the elements tangle her fur and sting her eyes felt refreshing and made her feel free. Each Clan's territory offered its own unique landscape, but Lilysong would never trade this feeling for any amount of woodland or swamps. Some might say that the rolling countryside provided a bleak view in comparison to the rich undergrowth and towering canopies of the forest, but when Lilysong stood upon the ridge of the jagged cliff and sent her gaze across the miles of open grass lands, she could almost feel her heart signing.
She waited for the others to arrive before casting her nose to the air, inhaling the scents that were carried on the breeze due to them being downwind. It took a few moments of casting about before she found the scent of a hare and, once the wind had died down a bit, noticed some suspicious rustling in the grass some 20 metres away. Careful to keep herself downwind of her prey, Lilysong crouched low to the ground and trained her ears forward, her eyes fixed on the spot she believed the hare to be hiding in. Stalking forward as slowly as possible, Lilysong waited until she was within pouncing distance before readying herself to jump. Unfortunately for her, the wind was an ever changing being and Mother Nature decided to place her upwind of her prey, revealing her position. Hares are quick when it comes to an all-out sprint, but Lilysong had pounced the very second she'd realised her mistake. The hare had barely made it 5 feet from its hiding spot before Lilysong's jaws clamped down on its neck, silencing it forever. It was a small victory, but it was all that they could hope for out here on the moor. Deer wouldn't risk living out here in such open space, so small prey such as this made up the majority of their diet. Lilysong didn't mind this at all - she rather liked the taste of hare.
Spinning round with the limp hare in her jaws, Lilysong searched for her companions to see how they were doing.

Following her friend out onto the wide open prairie Silverfern kept her trap shut glancing around interestedly, this was hard case it was so very different from the mountains that were home. Her pale silver gaze turned towards the mountains wondering how Sunclan was doing, perhaps with what was going on Larkstar and Riverstar would agree to become Allies. They'd need it with Shadowclans new leader, seeing Lilysong heading back to her Silver spoke "Gee its a bit out in the wop-wops out here isn't it? Then i guess all of the clans are out in the boonies aren't we" as usual she spoke without realizing that her thickly accented voice was once again saying words most others didn't recognize. When others didn't understand her it could get a little lonely, but that was just the price of being her, quirky got lonely easy these days. Right enough chatting "Lets have a squizz" she told herself quieter and looked around studyign the lay of the land, deer wouldn't come out here unless there was nothing else to eat. Which meant hare and rabbit was on the menu, probably rabbit, hares were too lean scrawny and tough to be bothered eating.

When she located what could work she wandered towards it smoothly falling into a hunting crouch with seemingly little effort. Carefully stalking the fat green-leaf rabbit it had no chance, striking forward she pounced on the creature and wrapped her jaws around his neck, shaking her head until its neck broke from the force she stood and loped back to Lilysong a slight wag of her tail indicating her mood.

Wrenclaw trotted out onto the moor, the wind ruffling his thick fur. The breeze made it much easier to identify the scent of prey, and he tasted the air, eager to the scent. "Rabbit, hare, prairie birds, ground hog.." He watched as Lilysong and Silverfern ran ahead, and he turned to the side, trotting up a taller slope away from the two. He stayed within hearing distance however, though he didn't sense any danger so he didn't worry about it. Trotting over the slope, he squinted his eyes and flared his nostrils, noticing a smaller shape up ahead. "Prairie dog." The brute ducked his head and slipped neatly down the slope, relying on his smell over his vision as he entered the tall heather. He placed his paws carefully, making sure not to make a sound as he moved closer in. He then spotted the creature, standing a few wolf-lengths from its burrow. Wrenclaw licked his jaws, imagining grasping the furry animal between his fangs. He took another couple steps towards it, and readied himself to dart forward. But of course, as it had to be, the wind just so happened to pick up from behind him, sending a gust in the prairie dog's direction. The creature turned, twitched its nose, then made a beeline for its burrow. Wrenclaw dashed forward, stumbling on a piece of heather that had gotten beneath his paws. He sprinted, his paws flying over the ground after his prey, but it was all in vain. The animal disappeared below the ground, and the brute was left nothing but dust where his meal once stood. "Hare-dung!" He spat, shaking his fur out in frustration.
Flattening his ears, the male slinked back up the hill, emerging from the grass to see his two clanmates. Both Silverfern and Lilysong had managed to catch a rabbit, their jaws proudly displaying their prey. "Great, even a Sunclan wolf is a better hunter then you." He thought to himself in annoyance. But Wrenclaw was not one to give up easily, and he padded onwards, following a new scent of game.

Silverfern's peculiar words chimed in her ears resulting in a bright, genuine smile curling around Lilysong's muzzle. She could listen to the female's ridiculous way of talking all day. Lilysong was a little unsure, but from her tone she gathered that Silverfern was commenting on the environment of the WindClan territory. Lilysong hadn't really thought about whether Silverfern would be finding the differences in terrain difficult to adjust to, but she didn't have much time to question Silverfern before the quirky female had rushed off in pursuit of her own catch. Lilysong marvelled at the ease with which Silverfern caught and silenced the rabbit and smiled around the hare as Silverfern returned with her catch. It seemed that, whatever effect the change might be having on her friend, it was not affecting her ability to hunt effectively. "Look at you, you're a natural out here," the sandy furred warrior quipped kindly, dropping her own catch on the ground in a safe spot so that she could reclaim it later. Her own hare looked rather scrawny in comparison to the juicy morsel Silverfern had retrieved. She couldn't return to camp with just this - she'd have to catch something else as well before they headed back.
Hearing a shout coming from the hill further ahead, Lilysong cast her eyes around until they found the source of the commotion. Wrenclaw stood upon the rise of the hill, empty-handed and looking a little ruffled. Lilysong made no comment, not wanting to embarrass the male by alerting him to the fact that she'd witnessed his failure, and besides, there was no real rush. There was plenty of time to find and catch something else.
Turning her attention back to Silverfern her tail swayed contently as she locked her green gaze on her companion, a mischievous twinkle igniting itself in her eyes. "You're quick for a SunClan wolf," she jested playfully, hoping her smile and light tone conveyed that she was only teasing the dark coated warrior.

At Lilysongs words Silverfern glanced at her and simply shrugged "I don't really get how hunting out here is much different to being in the mountains, same style right? Keep your booty low and keep hidden as much as you can, the long grass makes it prime for stalking prey without being seen" in her opinion hare wasn't worth hunting, it was long, lean and gamey and didn't really make good eating for the effort it took to catch it. Well aware that the other windclan warrior, Wrenclaw was likely frustrated that she'd caught something and he didnt, she opted to pay it no mind. The light hearted jest earnt itself one of her easy smiles "Aye, Sunclan was founded by windclan wolves too, some of your swiftiness must have made it into my genepool" her familiar pride in her home clan burst into flame inside of her, in some ways she regretted the move, she missed her mountains but she would not tell anyone that. Her silver gaze flicked to the familiar mountains, one or two moons and snow would start to settle on them again, if it was a heavy snow fall again avalanches could be a danger. Well that was a plus of living down here, with the flat-landers as she'd often jokingly called the other four clans once upon a time. She should get back to hunting, missing home could be saved for at night when the others were asleep, giving a nod at Lilysong she started to move away to hunt again.

Wrenclaw ignored the two she-wolves and their conversation, quite aware that they probably saw him miss the catch. With his fur still hot with embarrassment, he padded on, catching the scent of rabbit. "Silverfern already caught a rabbit, but I guess that doesn't matter." He pursued the scent, stepping lightly over the open moor. The smell grew stronger, and the male crouched, assuming the stalking position. He soon spotted the creature, nibbling a few wolf-lengths away at some grass. It was quite an ignorant being, perhaps too young to know better, as it had strayed a considerable ways from its burrow. Too preoccupied by the green-leaf grass that was set before it, the rabbit had not realized the sudden danger until it was too late. Wrenclaw dashed forward, his paws flying elegantly over the ground. The rabbit made a vain attempt to flee, but its fate was already sealed. With a quick bite to the back of the neck, Wrenclaw forever silenced the animal, feeling as it went limp between his jaws.
More satisfied with his catch, the male padded back to the two she-wolves, still in the same spot as before. He set the rabbit down, looking over the other two wolves' catches. "I should probably compliment them or something." He cleared his throat. "Er, nice catch," He said, nodding to the plump rabbit that Silverfern had caught. "Hm, I wonder if Silverfern was close to Weedfang or not?" He couldn't remember his Sunclan friend ever mentioning her, but it was hard to know.

Wishing she'd had something bigger for brekkie Silverfern smiled in her laid back good natured way when Wrenclaw spoke "Good catch yerself, that tucker will go far, make the clan camp into a bit of a bun-fight" with an easy stretch of a back leg she looked out over the windswept land, the wind had picked up and was pending the stalks of grass and shrubs gently. To the naked eye the prairie was empty, but the wind brought smells and sounds that revealed that it was actually choc-a-block full of prey. Her silvery grey eyes scanned the landscape as the wind tussled with her thick fur, the strange silver marking behind her flank on her side was slightly shorter fur than the other fur around it the winds games obscuring it a little. The noise of strange birds was carried to her as well as their scent, ooh sounds like a chook crouching down until she was obscured by the long grass the dark warrior slowly crept forward ever so careful not to let herself be spotted or make a mistake. Spotting the greater prairie chickens walking about and bobbing their heads as she did so she focused on the biggest female one. Waiting patiently she struck out and missed, however it appeared the birds couldn't fly well so she leapt u into the air and grabbed it by a wing by pure luck. Dragging it down with her to the ground the warrior shook her head furiously until its wing was broken and useless, dropping the wing she quickly shot forward to tackle the bird before it could escape and clamped her jaws around its throat. Effectively killing the bird with a sickening crunch and now covered with feathers she turned and loped back to the others with her prize.

Wrenclaw heard the former Sunclan wolf's reply, and was almost more confused. "The heck does that mean? I guess that's a compliment." "Uh, thanks," he responded, observing the prey Lilysong and Silverfern were able to conjur up. "We should be able to catch one or two more prey before we head back to camp." It seems like Silverfern had the same idea, and watched as she padded off to hunt some more game. Turning around he trotted forward, tasting the air for more prey-scent. "Hare, groundhog, prairie chickens." He decided to pursue the hare, his long legs itching for a good run. He continue to pad forward, sniffing the air as the scent grew closer. When he felt close enough, the male broke into a sprint, dashing forward at an intense speed. The hare lifted its head, eyes widening in alarm. With a scurry it was off, and the chase was on. The Windclan warrior ran at top speed, enjoying the thrill of the hunt, his amber eyes shining. The hare zoomed ahead, nimbly avoiding the wolf for almost ten wolf-lengths, but the predator was faster. Wrenclaw pounced forward, his paws bearing down and his jaws clamping on the prey's scruff. With a quick shake, the hare was stunned, and the male delivered the killing bite to its throat. Content with his catch, Wren sauntered back to his two clanmates.

Trotting up to the prairie's large rocky outcropping that gave one a pretty good view of the place Lilacsplash's attention was drawn to the distant mountain that had been her home for a while. Those memories made her think of the golden wolf she'd been close friends with before she'd joined the clans and met Kaispirit, so much had happened during these past few months and she was completely oblivious of why she was gaining weight. The wind brought to her the scent of Lilysong, Silverfern and Wrenclaw, the sunclan warriors choice to join windclan had surprised her she didn't think it was very common for warriors to want to leave their birth clans especially when they were so passionate about it. The gentle female had picked up upon the black and silver warriors homesickness, quite sensitive to things like that she sighed softly wondering if she'd ever find out why Silverfern had come to Windclan. Looking about for heavypaw and surmised she must have out paced him, that was alright she'd just sit here and wait for him, she sat down and ran her tongue over her round sides wondering what was going on. Perhaps she should ask Ashfrost, he'd possibly be able to tell her what on earth was going on.

Heavypaw quickly caught up when he realized how slow he was being. Once he could see the pale female, he bounded over to her and sat down next to her. He dipped his head apologetically, treating her with the same respect he showed his mentor and his leader. "Sorry Lilacsplash, I'll be faster next time." He looked up into her sky blue eyes and noticed her mind was drifting off. What was she thinking about?

His voice jarred her from her thoughts, looking over at the apprentice she smiled in her gentle way "No trouble Heavypaw, i'm not my fastest at the moment either, should we focus our hunt on something thats not a rabbit then?" she suggested with a slightly cheeky smile although she mainly came across as very sweet. The pretty little thing glanced about with her Cyan eyes not picking up any thing with just her vision she swiveled her ears about searching for anything that could be hunted with two very slow wolves. Adding her nose to the mix she inhaled sharply and immediately more information was given to her, there were some prairie chickens not too far from here that they could have a go at hunting "Up for some chickens Heavypaw?" they could stalk them instead of just out right chase and if they came from each side they'd have a decent chance of catching something for the clan to eat. By the time they were done the hunting patrol should be back as well, ignoring the slight complaint of her stomach at the idea of waiting that long she waited for Heavypaws response.

The black and silver she wolf watched the windclan warrior hunt the hare with surprising ease, she knew she personally would never be able to run that fast however she could catch prey with her own means and ways. Once Wrenclaw had returned to the group Silverfern spoke "I suppose we should be heading back to camp then, they'll be wanting more kai" she picked up the couple of piece of prey she'd hunted down and rather paitently waited for Wrenclaw and Lilysong before she started to head back to camp her jaws filled with the rabbit and greater prairie chicken she'd managed to bring down. She was looking forward to heading back to camp and settling down to think for a while, on her way past she noticed Lilacsplash and Heavypaw. Guessing that they'd gone for a hunting mission for the same reason as they had she gave a wag of her tail in greeting and kept going. Silverfern had noticed Lilacs change in shape and weight and personally thought that she had a bun in the oven. Once they were past the two newcomers the laid back ex-sunclanner picked up the pace into a smooth canter the rolling easy gait one she could keep up for quite a while.

Heavypaw nodded. "Sounds good to me. Those stupid rabbit-brains are pretty easy to catch, but it'd be even easier if we herded them together in one spot. We could trample over as many as we can, since birds have hollow bones and everything," he licked his lips at the idea of finally getting some food into his belly. "Imagine the look on Larkstar's face if we come back with more food than the hunting patrol!" He grinned cheekily.

The brute had set his catch down on top of his other. Turning his head, he glanced at Lilysong and Silverfern, in agreement when Silver suggested in her quirky way that they head back to camp. Wrenclaw said nothing but complied, picking up his two prey in between his jaws. As he headed back, he spotted Lilacsplash and Heavypaw, probably going after some prey of their own. Doing a double take at the pretty she-wolf, he was a bit surprised at her round form. While it wasn't exceptionally noticeable, in the light and position she was in, her stomach did seem quite extended. It appeared to him that there may be pups on the way. Either that or the she-wolf was binging on too many rabbits. He suspected the first over the latter. "Are they Kaispirit's? The two have been getting pretty cozy lately." Wrenclaw didn't really like watching them cuddle or get all sentimental with each other. It only made him think of Weedfang, and such thoughts only made him depressed or annoyed. Turning his gaze away, the brute continued forward, his trot slower because of the prey that he carried. The sun was blazing down, and the male would have started to pant had his mouth not been so full.

The smile that Silverfern offered in response to her jibe sent a warm wave through Lilysong's body. It was a comforting warmth that Lilysong tried to hold onto for as long as possible, but it inevitably slipped away after a moment as reality crept its way back in. Lilysong shook her pelt to reclaim her thoughts and considered Silverfern's words. What she had said was true - SunClan had been formed by WindClan wolves which would likely result in many similarities in the wolves from both Clans. Lilysong found herself wondering if Honeybadger had relatives in SunClan, but dismissed that train of thought immediately. Truth be told, it was indeed likely that Honeybadger was somehow related to some of the current SunClan wolves, and bringing up that topic would surely only cause Honeybadger much grievance.
She nodded to Wrenclaw as he padded over with a decent catch hanging from his jaws. Seeing his prize forced her to divert her attention to securing another catch for herself. A deep sniff of the wind provded the fresh smell of grassland and also brought with it the scent of hidden treasures. Many scents filled her nose, most notably that of the prairie chickens that Silverfern had just killed, but she wasn't interested in that, for she had scented a rabbit and had fixated on that immediately. It might not be the best meat, but she loved the taste of rabbit. She stalked through the grass for a good while, following the trail until she began to wonder if she was somehow going in circles, but eventually the knawing sounds of a rabbit chewing on its breakfast accompanied the tantalising scent. Satisfied that she had pinpointed her catch, Lilysong waited a few moments in complete silence to deflect any suspicions that the rabbit might have of her presence before she pounced and... came up short. Blasted! Lilysong screeched internally as she tore after the creature, diving forward to catch it as it made for its den. Lilysong had only just made it as her jaws clamped down on its hide and her body skidded forward, her muzzle just entering the very beginning of the burrow as she came to a halt. The WindClan female stood up quickly, silencing her prey and shaking the dirt loose from her fur, her ears growing hot with embarrassment. She cast a sheepish glance in the direction of Silverfern and Wrenclaw but blessedly neither of them seemed to have witnessed her clumsiness.
Noticing that both Silverfern and Wrenclaw had also caught additional prey, Lilysong reclaimed her previous hare and trotted back to join the group. They had a reasonable sized catch and so agreed with Silverfern that they should return to camp soon. She had grown even more hungry as they had been hunting and was looking forward to eating when they returned to the camp.
As they trotted along, they party passed Lilacsplash and Heavypaw and Lilysong nodded to them in greeting, unable to supply her usually cheery verbal greetings as her mouth was stuffed full with her catch. She wanted to make a point of talking to Lilacsplash when she returned to camp. She didn't wish to pry, and Lilysong wouldn't go as far as to overstep friendly boundaries, but she had noticed a change in Lilacsplash over the last few weeks, most notably in her size. Lilysong highly doubted that it was from overeating, but the alternative did leave questions to be asked and Lilysong merely wanted to make sure that her friend was ok.

She turned her ears towards the apprentice quite keen on listening to what he had to say, a little amused at his suggestion she did have to admit that it sounded like a good idea and would be less effort. Flicking her tail she wondered if she'd be able to trample them with any ease then told herself she could just snap their necks with her powerful jaws "Alright then Heavypaw, lets do it" the pretty silver and cream female responded softly her cyan blue eyes becoming surprisingly fierce with determination. It didn't look like the hunting party had brought back much prey so it'd only show that they were just as good at hunting or even more so even with their combined disadvantage of being slow at the moment thinking it over she narrowed her gaze over the prairie "How about we herd them up against this outcropping so they've got the rock and us either side?" She suggested not really spotting anywhere she thought that could be of use to them.

|| heavypaw ||

" Silence... "

Heavypaw nodded in agreement with the pale warrior. He carefully planned out his movements as he played a mental image of how they'd go about this. "Yes, that could work. It's hard to corner nearly anything in WindClan territory. We'll have to make do with this," he agreed, looking around. The apprentice flicked his tail towards a dense patch of undergrowth. "How about you stalk them from here? It should be able to disguise your bright pelt at least a little. I'll go in from the right." He waited for an answer from her, since she had more experience hunting than him.

" ...is the most powerful scream. "

Listening to heavypaw, Lilacsplash nodded quietly, his words made sense and so she slipped into the undergrowth. Something changed however, the birds all took off as a painful howling wind whipped up, like a wolf was being slowly ripped apart. Whimpering softly as the cold wind was accompanined by darkness, she didn't understand where it'd come from and glanced up at the sky searching for clouds only to find the sky was clear of any. She straightened up and wandered over to Heavypaw, "We should head back to the clan Heavypaw, they'll be worried about us and something about this wind isn't right" finally she realized the root of the problem, something was blocking out the sun and its vital rays from the world. Wondering if it was something to do with Starclan, although she was a little unsure if she actually believed in it, the pretty silver she-wolf who was rather round with pups turned and headed back to camp. Something bad was coming and she wanted the apprentice back at the camp and safe, glancing over her shoulder to make sure the apprentice was okay she continued back to camp.

Heavypaw stared at the sky in amazement. The sun was completely hidden by a dark shadow, and thus caused the winds to start screeching. His paws trembled in unease as he felt as if he recognized one of the screams... "Lilacsplash?" he turned around just as she started to leave. Fear gripped his body as he wanted to run after her, but barely managed a quick trot. She was right though, the Clan would probably worry about anyone who was out of camp right now.
